My name is Shira Schwartz, President and Founder of The Human
Initiative Foundation. I am writing to you about a unique research
internship that is available to your students through the Human
Initiative Foundation, The ISE Research Fellow Internship: Innovation.
Service. Ethics.
The Human Initiative Foundation (HIF) is a Cleveland based non-profit
that develops innovative, sustainable and ethical service programming
from within local communities. HIF works to build idea into
action―from grassroots efforts to larger scale initiatives formed by
the Foundation. Human need presents itself in many different forms,
all of which mandate effective and sustainable solutions. Therefore, HIF initiatives are not limited to any particular sphere of human
life; HIF works in all areas: Social Service, Education, Healthcare,
Culture.
The common thread uniting all HIF programs is the way in which they
are built. The I-SENSE Code of Ethical Development is at the base of
each HIF initiative, and every program is fashioned according to its
principles: Innovative, Sustainable, Empowering, Need-Specific,
Enrichment. HIF is an organization built through an awareness of the
ever-changing, globalized world we inhabit, and the need for
problem-solving initiatives that work from within that context―that
engage diversity, internationalization, and sustainability in their
effort to make the world a better place. A changing world mandates a
changing non-profit world as well, one in which philanthropy must
merge with the corporate world, hard research, and civic engagement.
The ISE Research Fellow Internship: Innovation. Service. Ethics, is an
opportunity for college students to engage in a unique sort of
research experience, one that is not only academic, but that is
pitched towards policy and programming. ISE Interns will have the
opportunity to work in a field and on projects that matter to them,
whether it be in Social Service, Education, Healthcare, Culture etc.
They will have the ability not only to study issues in these fields,
but to help in program development for connected specific and local
issues. Interns will also have the opportunity to meet and learn from
other involved students who are passionate engaged in these issues as
well.
Each intern's research program is personalized and developed with the
intern's interests and strengths in mind. The internship is flexible
and can be done long-distance. Students may apply for Summer 09, with
the opportunity to continue in Fall 09 as well. The application
deadline is Friday, April 24, 2009. Please forward this letter and
attached
application to interested students.
