The Center for Competitive Politics (CCP)
is looking for a summer communications intern. CCP is a nonprofit,
nonpartisan organization focused on protecting the First Amendment
political rights of speech, assembly, and petition.
Through litigation, research, education, and outreach CCP works to
oppose limits and regulations on these First Amendment rights such as
campaign finance restrictions, the ‘censorship doctrine’ in talk
radio, and taxpayer funding of political campaigns.
CCP’s communications intern will assist with preparing and submitting
op-eds and press releases, scheduling media interviews for CCP staff
and advisors, tracking media coverage of CCP’s issues, developing
media lists, and maintaining CCP’s website: www.campaignfreedom.org.
Candidates for CCP’s communications internship should have completed
at least two years of undergraduate study with a major or
concentration in journalism, public relations, political science, or a
related field. He or she should have the following skills and
experience: excellent writing skills, website editing skills, solid
analytical ability and internet research skills, familiarity with
Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
detail-oriented, have strong initiative and demonstrated
resourcefulness, and be willing to take on a variety of assignment
types, work independently and as part of a team. Candidates should
also be politically aware and involved (no specific political
preference is required), and have a commitment to full protection of
the First Amendment’s political rights.
Interns will receive a stipend of $500 per month. Please send cover
letter, resume, two writing samples, one recommendation from a
professor, candidate or elected official, political leader, or similar
person, and a transcript or list of all college-level classes taken to
date (There is no deadline, but the position is expected to be filled
soon).
The starting and ending dates are flexible (roughly late May/early
June to mid-August).
