Professor Karen Beckwith was awarded CWRU Writing Program’s Jessica Melton Perry Award for Distinguished Teaching in Disciplinary and Professional Writing, recognizing her “outstanding commitment to and success in teaching disciplinary/professional writing to CWRU students.” In his nomination letter, Professor Elliot Posner, Chair of the Department of Political Science, wrote:

“Over the years, as Karen’s colleague and (since 2021) her department chair, I have become aware of the great importance she gives to teaching and encouraging political science disciplinary writing and have witnessed the effectiveness of her approach. Indeed, much of what she does in the classroom emphasizes the relevance and importance of good political science disciplinary writing. She structures her courses and class assignments to help her students produce excellent papers written to political science disciplinary standards.”
