Professor Kelly McMann was promoted to (full) Professor status in July 2017. Her achievements across her career to date – her books, Corruption as a Last Resort: Adapting to the Market in Central Asia (Ithaca: Cornell University Press, 2014) and Economic Autonomy and Democracy: Hybrid Regimes in Russia and Kyrgyzstan (New York: Cambridge University Press, 2006); her involvement in the international Varieties of Democracy project; her leadership as Director of CWRU’s International Studies Program; among many other professional achievements – have led to this well-deserved promotion. Professor McMann has been a Project Manager for the Varieties of Democracy Project (known as V-Dem). The American Political Science Association awarded V-Dem the Lijphart/Przeworski/Verba Data Set Prize in 2016. The indicators developed in the V-Dem Project are now being used by the World Bank.
