Opportunities and Announcements
for the Week of March 27, 2020
The Department of Political Science
With in-class teaching moved to remote teaching online, the Department of Political Science has succeeded in convening our courses and in continuing our teaching. Faculty have been working remotely with our senior capstone students and academic advisors have communicating with our advisees as we approach registration for the Fall 2020 semester. Students should feel free to contact their professors, as well as me, as Chair of Department, with any questions. A list of POSC faculty contact information is available on the POSC webpage here. I can be reached at karen.beckwith@case.edu.
On Wednesday, the Political Science Faculty met in a zoom department meeting to discuss arrangements for Senior Capstone presentations, P/NP procedures from Undergraduate Studies, celebration opportunities for our graduating seniors, and other issues. Everyone was able to join the meeting, with the exception of Professor Schroeder, who had a conflicting appointment. You can see a screen shot of our faculty, below, under “Something Extra.” Professors Buchler, Lavelle, Tartakoff, and White joined only in audio. Professor White joined by audio using Sydelle Zinn’s computer; Professor White is Ms. Zinn’s husband.
We are all working as quickly and efficiently as possible to respond to your inquiries and to coordinate with the College, Graduate Studies, and Undergraduate Studies to provide you with accurate relevant information in the context of adaptation and adjustment.
See here for updates of CWRU’s response to COVID-19 and for answers to frequently asked questions.
Declaring a POSC Major or Minor
For those of you who receive this Newsletter but who are not (or not yet) POSC majors or minors, please note that it is still possible to declare a major or a minor in Political Science. To do so, students should contact their Navigator to inquire on their current process for major/minor declaration, which the Registrar’s Office has said is possible to do remotely. Interested students are welcome to contact me as well, at reached at karen.beckwith@case.edu.
If You Were Studying Abroad. For those of you who had been studying abroad and have returned to the US, please note that the Department of Political Science is waiting to hear from Undergraduate Studies and the Study Abroad Office in regard to ways that we might help students who were enrolled in POSC courses that they were unable to complete. I will let you know any relevant information as soon as possible. Rest assured that we are paying close attention to this challenge.
