The Public Affairs Discussion Group or “Friday Lunch,” a weekly series organized by Professor White and sponsored by the Center for Policy Studies, will resume on August 27. Jonathan Adler, the inaugural Johan Verheij Memorial Professor of Law and Director of the Coleman P. Burke Center for Environmental Law, joins Jonathan L. Entin, David L. Brennan Professor of Law Emeritus and Adjunct Professor of Political Science. They will talk about the cases decided during the past term and the cases being considered in the October, 2021 term, and broad themes such as the effects of replacing Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg with Justice Amy Coney Barrett.For the moment but hopefully not too long, the Friday Lunch will only be meeting virtually. What on Earth Happened, What Do We Have to Worry about Next?

Recent events in Afghanistan were preceded by a complex set of dynamics. In this panel discussion, three experts of the region will discuss the Western withdrawal and collapse of the Afghan government, and offer their analyses of what has transpired over the past several days. They will also discuss how regional relationships will be affected by the collapse, including relations with Pakistan, Iran, China, and Russia, and how the international community should deal with the Taliban as a governing body. They will also address the implications these developments have for global terrorism.

Constitution Day

The Society for Constitutional Policy’s Constitution Day Forum for 2021, entitled “Censored:Section 230 and the Fight for Free Speech Online”, will be conducted through a live-streamed broadcast on the University’s website. Our two speakers are Professor Danielle Citron, the Jefferson Scholars Foundation Schenck Distinguished Professor in Law and Caddell and Chapman Professor of Law at the University of Virginia’s Law School, and Ms. Jennifer Huddleston, the Director of Technology and Innovation Policy at the American Action Forum. |
