     Opportunities and Announcements

for the Week of May 20, 2019

Congratulations!  We have good news and cause for celebration in our Department.  Twenty Political Science majors and four Political Science minors are graduating with their BA degrees this spring.  The Department recognizes our graduating seniors’ work by listing their senior capstone titles in the archive of POSC396 capstones on our POSC homepage.  This archive publicizes the range of scholarly work undertaken by our POSC majors and celebrates, in perpetuity, their capstone projects.  The list of Senior Capstones completed in the 2018-19 academic year can be found here.  To all our graduating seniors, congratulations on completing your major in political science, your capstones, and your degrees!

The Department has several prizes to award to our graduating seniors:  the Flora Stone Mather Prize (for outstanding academic performance in political science) and three new subfield prizes for outstanding scholarship in the study of comparative politics, of international relations, and of US politics.  These prizes have been funded by support from a generous anonymous donor, to whom we are very grateful for the opportunity to recognizing our outstanding students.  Professor Joseph White will present these awards to our seniors at the Academic Awards Ceremony tomorrow.

The final Newsletter of the 2018-19 academic year will arrive on Monday.  There are more congratulations to share, thanks to extend, farewells to issue, and donors to recognize. Until then, congratulations to our graduating seniors, whom I look forward to seeing on Sunday at commencement!

With all best wishes,
Karen

A Little Extra…

  • Jonathan Entin, the David L. Brennan Professor Emeritus of Law and adjunct professor of political science, weighed in on gerrymandering and why there has been a push to tackle the issue on a state level before the U.S. Supreme Court makes a decision.

Please note that the Department of Political Science alerts our students to a range of opportunities, including internships, fellowships, and jobs.  We do not endorse or sponsor these, and leave it to the judgment of our students what is most useful and appropriate to them.
