Wellman Hill Grant Recipient Marin Exler ’20 Interning at Local Democracy Research Institute in Curitiba, Brazil

As a Wellman Hill Political Science Internship Grant recipient, Marin Exler POSC ’20 has had the opportunity to spend her summer in Curitiba, Brazil, working for a local democracy research institute called Instituto Atuação. Here she works on creating research design proposals geared towards understanding democratic culture in Brazil and worldwide.

Hear from Marin herself as she describes her work:

My first research design proposal was based on the relationship between economic inequality and political participation, and the one that I’m currently working on is focused on how social interaction in public spaces facilitates social cohesion. It’s been a great learning experience so far, and Brazil is an awesome country!

Wellman Hill Political Science Internship Grants

Wellman Hill Political Science Internship Grants are made possible by a generous gift from Elizabeth Hill (B.A., M.A. 1997) to honor her grandfather, Wellman Hill. They are intended to encourage Political Science majors to pursue and accept public service summer internships. One of the goals is to open public service career possibilities to students whose access to such internships might be limited by financial constraints or other circumstances.
