Sneha Darbha POSC ’20, another recipient of the Wellman Hill Political Science Internship Grant, is spending her summer in New York City interning with the New York State Health Foundation. There she’s been researching ways in which grantees in 6 different underserved NYC neighborhoods can scale up their place-based programmatic work into advocacy at the government level. She’s been looking into advocacy techniques, capacity-building mechanisms, and how to create community-based, resident-led decision making processes.
Sneha describes her experiences below:
So far, I’ve had such a great experience working in philanthropy and understanding how nonprofits scale and sustain their work to create systemic political change. New York City is an incredible place to learn about and work with diverse populations as well as to understand the avenues by which citizens can influence the political process. I’ve loved spending time at the grantee sites learning about the history and cultures of different neighborhoods as well!

Wellman Hill Political Science Internship Grants
Wellman Hill Political Science Internship Grants are made possible by a generous gift from Elizabeth Hill (B.A., M.A. 1997) to honor her grandfather, Wellman Hill. They are intended to encourage Political Science majors to pursue and accept public service summer internships. One of the goals is to open public service career possibilities to students whose access to such internships might be limited by financial constraints or other circumstances.
